Mahila Shakti Women's Workshop

​

"Mahila Shakti” means “women’s power” in the Nepali language. The handicrafts produced in our workshop are made by local women who are impoverished or come from difficult backgrounds. Some have suffered from leprosy and still live with the stigma associated with the disease, making it difficult to find employment. KRMEF is proud to create such employment opportunities for women in our community, allowing them the prospect of earning a living, supporting their families and developing valuable technical skills.

We are very happy to announce that our workshop has been certified by Fair Trade Group Nepal!

 

The signature material used in most of our jewelry is the soapnut, a nut that has been grown and sustainably harvested in Nepal for centuries. In addition to soapnut jewelry, we make a variety of other handicrafts that incorporate waste products and local plants.

 

We are proud to sell our products at our on-site workshop, markets in Kathmandu, and at markets and fairs across the world. The profits from our Mahila Shakti Workshop sales go to the replenishing of the handicraft supplies as well as supporting other programs at the KRMEF.
