The Kevin Rohan Memorial Eco Foundation
Our Story
The Kevin Rohan Memorial Eco Foundation commemorates the life of Kevin Rohan Gurung, who passed away on December 21st, 2008. During his 7 years of life he brought warmth and joy to everyone around him. Although he is not physically with us anymore, he is our inspiration to continue working to enrich the lives of others. We honor him by providing opportunities for impoverished communities to thrive through cultivating a deeper connection with the earth and to each other. In doing so, Kevin’s memory is preserved in the warm smiles of the people whose lives have been touched by our work.
The principles at the heart of KRMEF are centered around their vision for Kevin to become a holistic, biodynamic, and socially responsible individual. The projects at KRMEF are meant to provide others the opportunities that Kevin was never able to have, and has inspired us to launch the foundation as a center for teaching others. Through our various work in biodynamic agricultural methods, early childhood education, medical services and community development, we aim to be of service to Nepal’s neediest communities. By cooperating with villagers and sharing our support, we can bring about the positive and sustainable changes so needed in Nepal. Villagers can learn to develop their own eco-friendly practices that benefit themselves and their family so they may be the change in their own communities as well.
About Us
Our Mission
To foster health and well-being in Nepal’s most impoverished communities by encouraging sustainable change through environmentally friendly programs. We act as an education center for local people, allowing them opportunities to build productivity, cooperation and wellness for their own communities, launching Nepal into a future where sustainable, eco-friendly living is possible.
Our Values
At the heart of all our work are six values that we aim to cultivate both in our community and all those who are part of it:
Respect
Integrity
Dignity
Trust
Productivity
Inclusiveness
Meet The Founder
Krishna Gurung has over 20 years of experience working with impoverished communities and is a leader in sustainable development projects in Nepal. After working as a technical physio in two hospitals in Kathmandu, he sought to focus his efforts on bringing not only health, but core wellness to the poorest communities; doing so by incorporating an anthroposophic and environmentally friendly perspective.
His expertise in the fields of sustainable community development, natural building, and biodynamic agriculture has been the basis for the projects at the foundation. It has helped him to successfully bring economic growth, land revitalization and public health and wellness to needy local populations.
He has been honored with six National Awards for Service, Innovation, Peace, and Achievement. His previous work establishment was nominated in BBC World Challenge 2008 as a finalist, as well as earned him nomination for the prestigious Buckminster Fuller Scientific Award in 2011 as a semifinalist. Through his continued efforts to help humanity and spread the message of KRMEF, he has served as a guest speaker at many national and international academic institutions, including the University of Virginia USA.
